The Rolex Sydney Hobart 2016

Highly popular in the Southern Hemisphere, the Rolex Sydney Hobart has become one of the most important offshore yacht races in the world. It receives a large amount of media coverage, and the start of this legendary race took place on 26th December. Organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, this Australian race takes place over 4 days. The awards ceremony occurred on 1st January at the Grand Chancellor Hotel in Hobart. Once again, as with previous years, First yachts monopolised the first 3 places of the podium in IRC 3, and five other First yachts were amongst the top ten. Congratulations to the first four:

Robert Robertson's First 40: “Bravo”. Mr Robertson, commonly known as Robbo, is a podium regular of the Rolex Sydney Hobart. He had in fact already won within his category with another First 40, “Lunchtime Legend

Derek & Martin Sheppard’s First 45: “Black Sheep

Ron Forster’s First 40: “Ariel”

Mike Welsh’sFirst 40: “Wicked

Congratulations are also in order for the other First 47.7s and First 40.7s. This remarkable record for the First yachts illustrates the confidence in Beneteau boats within this influential race, which is notoriously difficult and has highly demanding participation conditions.
