Sailing for ALS
Congratulations to Charles Devanneaux of NAOS Yachts and Naval Architect Fred Courouble on their completion of the Pacific Cup!
The Pacific Cup is a hugely competitive sailboat race starting in San Francisco, CA and finishing in Kaneohe Bay, HI. Since 1980, thousands of racers have been enjoying this Fun Race to Hawaii, completing over a million miles in total.
Charles and Fred share the same passion of sailing and racing. In 2011 they raced the TransPacific Ocean Race on a Beneteau First 40, and in 2012 they won the Pacific Cup Ocean on their Beneteau First 30.
Why did they do it again this year? In addition to their strong friendship and love for spending time on the water, they had a much stronger motivation for racing this year. The two friends sailed with the idea of raising awareness for ALS and to celebrate the memory of their captain “bonne humeur” Gilles Galerne, who lost his battle with ALS.
If you are so moved to learn more about their story, or to donate to help defeat ALS, you can visit Sailing for ALS.
